Environment Details:

We have 4 ESX Server and 1 Vcenter. All 4 ESX Server is connected to FC Switch.

Two Drive tape library is connected to FC Switch

Backup server is also connected to FC Switch

We wanted to take LAN FREE BACKUP of all the VMs.

We have Enterprise Server license, Enterprise Client server and 2 drive library license.

Let us know how to acheive this. What configuration has to be done. and what license is required additionaly.

Ideally you need a Windows based Media Server to properly support the vShere API (though some Linux Media Servers are getting this support now)

If you have 4 Enterprise Client Licenses then you have what you need to do your VMWare backups.

You need 1 Enterprise Client license per ESX Server plus one database pack per ESX server if you plan to do Exchange, SharePoint or SLQ backups using the vSphere API

Zone you tape library (drives and robotics) to the media server on one of its HBA ports and your VMWare Datastores to other HBA ports (do not use the same HBA port for tape and VMWare)

Go to the Master Servers Host Properties - VMWare Access Hosts section and add your Media Servers name in here.

Go to Media and Device Management - Credentials - Virtual Machine Servers section and add your vCenter in here - use a full admin account in here and one for which the password does not change.

Once that is done you should be good to go - configure NetBackup and the tape library and create a VMWare policy type with san as the transport type

Everything else you need to know is in the Admin Guides on your source installation media

Hope this helps
