My Vodafone 3G dongle (a Huawei K3770) works fine on my Lenovo laptop, which runs Windows 7 - but only if Network Protection in Symantec Endpoint Protection is disabled.  As soon as Network Protection in SEP is enabled, the 3G stops working: I can log on and off from the service, but I cannot access any websites using IE, Firefox or Chrome, cannot ping any sites or servers, and cannot log on to my company VPN.  All these things work fine if Network Protection is disabled.

I'm using the latest version of Vodafone Mobile Connect (10.3.401.43721) and SEP version 11.0.7101.1056.  SEP shows that the Vodafone Mobile Connect is 'allowed' and incoming and outbound traffic is enabled.  I've put every IP address I can think of in the SEP Firewall as 'trusted sites' but have not put any additional information in the TCP or UDP slots.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection, Vodafone Mobile Connect, and ThinkAdvantage Access Connections several times, programs I thought might be clashing with the Vodafone service.   I've tried pointing the Vodafone connection to the Google DNS servers instead of Vodafone's.  None of this works.

Please do any of you clever people out there have any suggestions on how I might be able to overcome this ?

Many thanks in advance for any feedback !

    Hi,

This issue is resolved in RU7 MP3 and in SEP 12.1 RU2 MP1.

Should it not be possible to immediately update the client, the following workaround can be applied:

    - Create a Blank rule in the Firewall policy and move it at the top
    - Rule Name : 3G USB workaround
    - Service       : a) add  - IP, b) add - Ethernet - Protocol type leave blank

     - Update the Policy on the client
    - Try to connect to the Internet using the 3G USB stick

This will effectively allow all ethernet frames, subject to the rules that are listed above. While this should not be an issue, if the customer is concered about a specific Ethernet type, they will have to create a rule above this one to specifically block it.

It is recommended that customers upgrade the clients to a version where this is fixed rather than used the workaround

Unable to connect to the Internet using Vodacom 3G - dongle

James, many thanks.  It's reassuring this is a known problem with an identified solution and workaround.  I've upgraded to SEP 12.1.2015.2015 but unfortunately this doesn't appear to have the fixpack/fix needed for this problem, and my company IT administrator has locked the firewall rules so I can't add another one as a workaround !  No worries: I'll talk to the IT department and see if they can issue a version with a fix for this.

Thank you again for your help.

I was facing the same problem, most of the times the Nortan Internet Security deletes the driver files of Vodafone modem (copied in drive),to avoid it you can do simple things-

     (1) in Nortan >settings>items to exculde from scan>...in configure add ...type the whole pathway of nortan file and folders...>;items to exclude from autoprotect, sonar and down load inetelligence detection....in configure...add...type the whole pathway nortan files and folders.

    (2) update tge drivers of Vodafone broadband (Huwai).the link to do how-                       http://www.wiknix.com/vodafone-mobile-connect-3g-usb-modem-not-detected-no-device-found-lets-fix-it/
