vpmsece.dll not installed error in outlook after upgrade

Created: 14 Feb 2008 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments

Is there another fix to the vpmsece.dll missing error in outlook after upgrading to Endpoint Protection 11 besides having to manually deleting the extend.dat on every machine?  Is there a way to add this into the install?

They don't have a problem accessing attachments. They get an error about missing vpmsece.dll when opening emails. I know I can fix this by deleting extend.dat but want to know if there is an easier way because I don't want to have to delete this file on 3000 machines that I need to upgrade.

You may also need to remove some registry keys pointing to the older software. It is recommended to first backup your registry before making changes

The Extend.dat data is found in the Registry at:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions

Then you will see Symantec Anti-virus plug in. Delete that key that will take it out.

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting...

"Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"
