I found that Netbackup changes the shadow copies limit size to default(300MB) if the maximum size is set to "NO LIMIT".

Hi ALL,

Please let me know if above statement is true.

Apparently it can happen under certain situations:

I believe the VSS_MAXIMUM_STORAGE_SIZE value has been removed but not positive, I will investigate further.

Apologies for that, I have had to do some deeper research on this than I thought was going to be needed.
The article I quoted earlier:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH72361

is no longer applicable. Back in version 6.5.4 and 7.0GA, we created a ShadowCopy association in an attempt to rectify a problem of shadows created by NetBackup being deleted when the customer environment was set up to retain snapshots created by other means.
As it turns out, the fix we put in 6.5.4 caused different problems, including the one you described.

Bottom line:  This change was pulled in 6.5.6 and 7.0.1.  If you are fairly current on your NetBackup version, you should not encounter this problem.

Thanks .So if I set NO limit under shadow copy tab (NBU 7.1) ,what will happen in this case?

smurphy's picture

Nothing. In 7.5  (as well as 7.1) we are not touching those shadow copy settings.

you mean to say that we cannot use this no limit  parameter in NBU 7.1 and 7.5?Am I correct?

smurphy's picture

I am saying we don't use VSS_MAXIMUM_STORAGE_SIZE, correct.

"We" means NetBackup, we are not affecting any setting you make.
