After a pwer cut and a reboot I am currently getting the following messsage after the daily (Incremental) backup.

Backup- \\......Server Name.... \Microsoft Exchange Public Folders AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\....Server Name......\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group".
Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7},
Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Failed during freeze operation (9).
Consult your Microsoft documentation for details.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for corresponding application or system errors.

I am also getting the following if it is relevant?

Backup- D: Data

The item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\AP0.LOG in use - skipped.
The item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\BF0.LOG in use - skipped.
The item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\db000003.dat in use - skipped.
The item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\DB000027.DAT in use - skipped.
The item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\DBREFS in use - skipped.
The item D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\EV0.LOG in use - skipped.
The item D:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Catalogs\{6744ACA4-6581-47FE-9072-A832A9EC5D4F}_174.img in use - skipped

Any ideas (in simple, layman's terms)?

Thank You

Hello, Exchange 2003 OR

Hello,

Exchange 2003 OR 2007?

If Exchange 2003, do not use AOFO in backup job. Create 2 jobs for Exchange 2003, Exchange IS in a seperate job and Drives and System state Backup with AOFO.

If its Exchange 2007 on Server 2003, Install VSS rollup Patch : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349 (REBOOT REQUIRED)

Hope this helps ...

Its a best practice to have a "Support Contract" with Symantec...
