Hi Sukrut, You can't directly
Hi Sukrut,
You can't directly upgrade from 3.5 from 5.1 ... you need to uninstall 3.5 & install 5.1 .... Read sf_install guide for more information on possible upgrade paths.....
Install guide can be found on
https://vos.symantec.com/documents
VRTSvxvm package can be downloaded from Symantec.com

Hi Gaurav
Thanks a lot for this info..
Is there any site or place from where I can download VRTSvxvm3.5
Actually I started upgrade to 5.1 and during upgrade I delted old VxVM 3.5 and now upgrade failed because I need to upgrade it to 4.0.
Is it okay to uninstall 3.5 and install 5.1 without loosing data i.e dg's and volume group...?

VxVM 5.1 installation errror
Hi Gaurav
I have uninstalled VxVM 3.5 and installed 5.1
But now when I am trying to start vxconfigd I am getting given below error
root@sunpspd1:/var/tmp/veritas/dvd1-sol_sparc# vxconfigd
VxVM vxconfigd ERROR V-5-1-9937 Cannot get svm info from the kernel: Inappropriate ioctl for device
VxVM vxconfigd ERROR V-5-1-8613 Cannot get all disk groups from the kernel: Inappropriate ioctl for device
root@sunpspd1:/var/tmp/veritas/dvd1-sol_sparc#
Any idea why these errors are coming.
Thanks
Sukrut S
I hope you are starting
I hope you are starting vxconfigd on correct path...
Use these steps:
# vxiod set 10
# /sbin/vxconfigd -m disable -x syslog
# vxdctl mode (check mode, it should be disabled)
# vxdctl enable
In case above doesn't help, let me know error messages... & verify vxvm package
# pkgchk VRTSvxvm

Hi Sukrut, It might be
Hi Sukrut,
It might be difficult to find vxvm 3.5 now as its obsolete ages back....
Since 5.1 is backward compatible.... it understands the diskgroup versions of 3.5 .... From vxvm admin guide
Table 6-1 Disk group version assignments
VxVM release Introduces disk group version Supports disk group versions
1.2 10 10
1.3 15 15
2.0 20 20
2.2 30 30
2.3 40 40
2.5 50 50
3.0 60 20-40, 60
3.1 70 20-70
3.1.1 80 20-80
3.2, 3.5 90 20-90
4.0 110 20-110
4.1 120 20-120
5.0 140 20-140
5.1 150 20-150
So theoritically, 5.1 supports diskgroup versions 20-150, so if you uninstall 3.5 & install 5.1, it should be able to import the diskgroups... once that is done, you can upgrade the diskgroup version to take advantage of new features..
# vxdg upgrade <diskgroup>
I would recommend upgrade of DG version, but only after you have confirmed that diskgroup is getting imported fine & data is intact...
Please read admin guide for more details

Hi Gaurav Actually,we are
Hi Gaurav
Actually,we are migration from symmetrix storage to Vmax storage.
I would like to know how we can copy the data from one disk(under dg) to newly added disk in the same dg.
i.e 1) We will add disk to storage which is available in format..
2)we will add the disk in under veritas conrol and add the disk in DG.
3) Now we need to copy the data from one of the disk to newly added disk.
4)Remove old disk.
Thanks
SukrutS
in step 3, making the new
in step 3, making the new disk a plex of the existing volume is likely the way to go
Sorry to barge in.... but how
