VxVM patch 122058-12 requires obsoleted patch 128306-05
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 8 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I'm trying to install SF50MP3 RP2 on our Solaris 10 lab machines.
VxVM patch 122058-12 fails to completely install as it requires obsoleted patch 128306-05.
My VxVM package shows Pstamp as RP2, but status says partially installed.
I'm about to download and install patch 138269-02 (replacement for 128306-05). Has anybody tried this? Will it work after installing patch 138269-02?
Or should I try to obtain 128306-05 first, then install VxVM patch, followed by 138269-02?

Hi Marianne
I installed 122058-12 on my test box which had 138269-02 and no problems were encountered. Hopefully 138269-02 will sort out your patch prereq issue

VxVM patch 122058-12 requires obsoleted patch 128306-05
Hi Marianne,
I Upgraded SF 4.1 to SF 5.0 MP3RP2a on Solaris 9 and found the in the RP2a documentation the following:
■ For Storage Foundation on Solaris 9 SPARC:
# patchadd -M patch_dir 122058-12 123089-03 123201-05 123722-02 123823-05 139354-01 139357-02 139737-01 139739-01 139741-02 139742-02 139743-01 139744-01 139754-02 140657-01 140661-01 141279-01 141745-01
This is the command to upgrade to RP2a, but not all the Patches in this command is in the patches directory once it's all extracted.
for example:
123089-03, 123201-05, 139754-02, and 141279-01
As far as I am aware the following is the most important patch for Solaris 10:
141777-01
According to me you need the following patches supplied by RP2a:
■ For Storage Foundation on Solaris 10 SPARC:
# patchadd -M patch_dir 122058-12 123090-03 123202-05 \
123722-02 123823-05 139354-01 139358-02 139359-02 \
139737-01 139739-01 139741-02 139742-02 139743-01 \
139744-01 139754-02 140657-01 140661-01 141279-01 141745-01
■ For Storage Foundation on Solaris 10 x64:
# patchadd -M patch_dir 127336-03 127337-03 127362-03 \
128091-02 139355-01 139360-02 139361-02 139738-01 \
139740-01 139745-02 139746-02 139747-01 139748-01 \
140658-01 140662-01 141280-01
Thanks for the quick
Thanks for the quick responses!
The O/S patch level on both lab servers is so old that it's a miracle that anything is still working!!
The one is 120011-14 and the other is 137111-01.
I did not read the entire patch readme to see if there's a minimum required kernel patch level.
I ran the long patchadd -M command, but with all the output produced I did not realize that there were error messages.
Only when I checked pkginfo output did I notice the 'partially installed' status of VxVM. The install output file in /var/tmp showed the patch dependancy.
Since these are only lab servers, I installed the obsoleted patch and retried 122058-12.
This time the patch install was successful and pkginfo now shows 'completely installed'.
Tony, Hugo, can you please let me know what the O/S kernel patch level was where you've installed?
I'm sitting with July 09 EIS media on my desk. (Next task after cluster test...)
