VxVM vxdctl ERROR V-5-1-1589 enable failed: License has expired or is not available for operation

Both thes articles didn't help , also running vxdctl license init ..running vxvm 5.1 sp1 , vxdctl is in booted state .. ps -ef |grep vxconfig giving :
root 16165 1 0 Jan 29 ? 126:39 vxconfigd –kroot 16165 1 0 Jan 29 ? 126:39 vxconfigd –k
any ideas ?

You should check licences using vxlicrep (showed license keys if not using keyless) or vxkeyless - example:
Use:
to show current settings and you can use:
to show possible settings and then use
where prod_levels is a comma-separated list of keywords, as shown from "vxkeyless displayall" to licence what you require (you still need to buy a license, but you don't need a key)

Can you paste the output of "vxlicrep -e " & "vxlicrep -si"
Also, is this a new installation or was a working setup ? If it was working setup, what & all products are installed ? CVM/CFS ?

You have no keyless keys installed, so if vxlicrep does not show a license for VxVM, then you need to add a licence using vxlicinst (if you have a key) or "vxkeyless -q" (as detailed in last post)

What is the history to the system ? Was this a working SFORA 5.1SP1 system that suddenly stopped or is it a new system ?
What is the output of vxdctl license
From the info in the thread, it appears you were using a license key as opposed to being in "keyless" mode

yes , this was a working system , just replaced the keys above with xxxxx
root@earthq # vxdctl license
No licensed features are availableroot@earthq # vxdctl license
No licensed features are available
removing and re-installing them as per 2 tech notes listed above doesn't help
What did you do prior to experiencing this issue - did you upgrade the Symantec software or upgrade diskgroups?

upgrade was done long time ago to 5.1 .. everything was running fine .. after like 3 months issue appeared , TECH75640 solved the issue .. eventually it come back .
gonna retry TECH75640 and see .

Do you know the exact patch level of Volume manager (VRTSvxvm) on the system and what is the OS ?
I am wondering if you have the latest Rolling Patch (RP) for 5.1SP1

VXVM ... 5.1.100.000-5.1SP1
removing re-insyallimh the licenses , resolved the issue for now .. but the problem regulalry reappear every multiple months

Hi,
If its only VxVM licenses that are affected, then possibly it could be a known issue regarding a memory leak and vxconfigd. There is a vxconfigd/license fix in Rolling Patch 2 (RP2)
Looking at the version info, it would appear that you have 5.1SP1 with no patches.
You should consider installing the latest rolling patch (RP3) for 5.1SP1 which is available for download from https://sort.symantec.com/patch

Thansk tony , i'll consider upgrading .
However , my concern is that after upgrade "supposed it didn't fix the issue" , we will have to wait for a long time till problem re-occur.
Guess , we have no other option anyway , i'll keep posting here with the updates ..
