Hello,

Global  VCS uses WAC resource to monitor the hearbeat between the site and uses ICMP for the backp or to make sure? Or is ICMP configuration is important here?

I believe WAC is used for communication between clusters (like Service group state) so ICMP heartbeats are required for the heartbeats.

Hi,

WAC is a resource type which uses ICMP or ICMPs as method to determine the status of remote clusters so ICMP is required.

The wide-area heartbeat agent manages the inter-cluster heartbeat. Heartbeats are used to monitor the health of remote clusters. VCS wide-area hearbeat agents include Icmp and IcmpS. While other VCS resource agents report their status to VCS engine, heartbeat agents report their status directly to the WAC process.

I thought  WAC uses  clusteraddress to keep the heartbeat and  ICMP is back up for the  WAC. If I understand correcly,  ICMP is part of WAC?  can you please confirm?

See extracts from VCS admin guide:

The wac process runs on one system in each cluster and connects with peers in remote clusters. It receives and transmits information about the status of the cluster, service groups, and systems

VCS wide-area hearbeat agents include Icmp and IcmpS. While other VCS resource agents report their status to VCS engine, heartbeat agents report their status directly to the WAC process

So WAC resource communicates status of the cluster using ClusterAddress, and ICMP heartbeat uses its own attributes for address (which is generally the same as the ClusterAddress) and ICMP reports it's status to WAC.

Hello,

Cluster address & ICMP has to work hand in hand, ICMP is a media (just like ping), you can ping (send & receive ICMP requests) on a IP address only right ?
