We are running DS 6.9 SP4 and we are upgrading to new hardware and want to install DS 7.1.  Does anyone know where I can get a stand alone copy of DS 7.1 without the NS site?

That is correct.  There are a large number of us that aren't willing to goto 7.x anytime soon as too much functionality is lost.  CMS 7.x is a nice concept, however, Symantec has a lot of work to do to re-instate all the functionality that we as a community of users have come to expect and depend on.

Firstly - Symantec have not stated any EOL for DS 6.9 so it would be wrong to say that SP4 is the last.

Secondly - The core capability to deploy an OS (from zero touch onwards), migrate user settings, deploy applications, perform remote control, configure systems, and repackage MSI's is included within CMS 7.

It is certainly a "change" from what DS 6.x customers are used too, howverer the functionality is there and the added benefits that can be driven from the NS/SMP will outweigh any percieved limitations.

You need to install DS 7.1 with NS that a pre-requisite. Try talking with Symantec Sales, you might need not to buy whole ITMS or CMS suite.

You can use Symantec Install Manager (SIM) to just install DS 7.1 and the minimum Symantec Management Platform (SMP) components (which includes NS) by selecting filters "Product Type" and "Solutions"

Firstly, I think the comment was taken out of context.  6.9 SP4 is the latest one available that is stand alone and not the last and final.

And Secondly, I can't speak for everyone, but I believe most of us are of the opinion that there is decreased functionality with the 7.x releases over the 6.9.  I'm not saying that the new features aren't great, I am saying that it's not where it needs to be for the majority of us to switch.  I know I had read that a lot of the functionality that was lost from 6.9 to 7.x is expected to be re-introduced further down the line (which I believe a lot of us are eagerly anticipating.

And finally, it is more than a change.  The functionality is not all there as has even been said by some Symantec employees (on and off the forums).  I am looking forward to future releases of DS 7.x as I do agree it has a lot of potential.  I also believe you said it right when you said "NS/SMP will outweigh any perceived limitations".  The key word is "WILL" meaning in the future.  This is also probably a big reason why Symantec has not stated any EOL on 6.9.  I think Symantec understands that they had a great product with 6.9 and 7.x is just not there yet.
