This issue has been solved. See solution.

Environment

Primary Site:

NBU Server 7.5.0.3 (32bit)

OS = Windows 2003 SP2 (32bit)

Tape Drive = Standalone Tape Drive

Secondary Site:

NBU Server 7.5.0.3 (32bit)

OS = Windows 2003 SP2 (32bit)

Tape Drive = Standalone Tape Drive

Query

My requirement is I want to restore my Tapes which created from Primary Site Netbackup Server to Secondary Site. Is there any solution from Netbackup site ?

1.-   I have a VPN connectivity between both sites thats why I am not able to keep the same host name and IP of both Netbackup Servers.

2.-   One Idea : One Master/Media Server at Primary Site and one Media Server at Secondary Site.

Question: Can we restore the Tape which created at Primary Site, from the Secondary Site Netbackup Media Server

Zahid,

both ways are posible, in your case one, both are diffent netbakcup domain, you can take tape rfrom one site to another & proform import phase 1 & 2, then you are good to restore,

& on the other side if you add media server in the same netbackup domain on the second side, its ready each,

just pass

There are two methods for defining alternate restore servers, one (FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER) will permanently redirect restores to a specified server the other (FAILOVER_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVERS) allows alternate media servers to be used in the event os a temporary failure.

I hope it answer your query.

First thanks Gurjeet for your kind words.

Actually this will takes time alot. Thats why I am not going for this.

I feel that the second will be good(one Master/media at primary site and one media at secondary site)

Any comment will be appreciated. Mark as Solution if your query is resolved

Zahid: You're active on the NBU forum so I moved this from the Online Backup forum to here...not sure why you tagged the incorrect forum!

Thanks!

Zahid - we have been through this previously?

Remember 'Recovery without Import' for restore via different master server domain??
Latest doc : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH28722

Same NBU domain is covered in your oher (current) discussion  https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/awaiting-resource-a00013-pending-request-has-been-generated-resource-request

Yes Marianne but here I want to take some other suggestions also for this as the copying and pasting could do some damage

Means May be pasting to incorrect folder etc ...

Also one idea behind this. The person who is restoring the Images from a Tape which created at Primary Site. to New Site, this person is not much technicial. This is also a reason.

Training on Recovery without Import takes about 5 minutes.
Combine training with step-by-step documentation.

There are all sorts of supported DR recovery methods available.
Catalog recovery, tape import, Recovery without Import, catalog replication, etc...

You will find TNs on Symantec site, White Papers, even manuals, such as NBU in Highly Available Environments Admin Guide.

You need to read all available documentation and come up with a solution that works in your environment....

Seems this issue has also been dealt with?  (Looking at you other posts...)

You have a remote media server and not a separate master server right?

We now know that the answer was one of two methods:

1. Media Host override (same as FORCE_RESTORE_ entry in Gurjeet's post above)

2. Change Media ownership with bpmedia -m <id> -newserver <remote-server>

Please let us know if you need any further assistance?
