Warning: 15min. first boot after installing SWV version 6.1.4108(MP1) and 6.1.4113 (MP1 HF1)
Description of issue: after installing SWV it can take around 15min. to get to log-in after reboot
We have just opened a ticket with symantecand are awaiting a solution
Version 6.1.4063 did not have this issue!
what else do you have on your
what else do you have on your machine? there are some know issues where certain software combined with SWV causes long log-in times.
A clean machine should not have this issue at all unless you've got like 10-20 apps set to Activate on System Startup.

most business users have 10 to 100 set at start (here are a few)
to start
These are the bigest ones that could be causing conflicts since they are also filter drivers like SWV. But i'm not sure what happen from Version 6.1.4063 which caused this problem .
are those in layers? because
are those in layers? because they shouldn't be.
Also if anyone has more then about 20 layers running at once you're system will be pretty unusable. If you've got 10 very large layers (office, acrobat pro) and so on you can see 10 minutes easy for activating all of them at startup.

no layers, just agent
not talking layers... We are having that issue with just the agent being installed and no layers
same problem like emerkle
I got the same problems after I installed 6.1.4113 (MP1 HF1) on a Windows Vista Computer.
The only way to fix the problem was to restor a system snapshot. :-)
update
sounds like from our side it has something to do with installing it without explorer running. We are still working with support on it
SVS\SWV does not support
SVS\SWV does not support custom shells, basically anything outside of explorer or our own Workspace Cooperate Shell, and--much like drivers in a layer--some situations may work, many will not.
Also another issue is installing in Preboot environments, which is also being done, SVS\SWV doesn't like that because some things don't exist so you'll see a longer first-run load time while we reconfigure.
Support will be creating a KB article for an enhancement request for better, non-explorer, shell support. Feel free to subscribe to it, the more people that do the better chance it has of getting added to the to-do list.
Also feel free to create an "idea" here on Connect, which is more or less the same thing but based off of votes.

20 layers running at once you're system will be pretty unusable?
Jordan your saying with new version of SWV just having 20 layers or so active will make system unusable? In the 2.1 version we have machines with 25-30 layers on them. I thought that SWV was supposed to increase the number of layers that could be activated on a machine without a performance hit. What's going on here?
I was talking about activate
I was talking about activate on system startup, activating that many layers will delay startup easily.
But to answer your question: with any version of SWV\SVS if you have that many layers active you COULD make your system very slow. Heck I could do it with 10 if I wanted.
What going on is how the virtualized layers interact with Explorer and what's inside a layer is really what causes systems to be slowed down, generally the larger the layer the more it can slow down the system. If you've got 10 Office 2007 and Acrobat Pro layers active that can really slow down a system that isn't brand new.
Also just having a layer active, even if it's empty, affects PC speed but you'll need probably 40-50 until it's noticeable (a few seconds) to over a hundred (10-30 seconds) to around 200 ( a few minutes) between creation\activation time.
I don't know what the official recommended number of layers active is, I don't think one exists, my rule of thumb is 10 but it's really a case by case issue depending on your environment and what you've got in your layers. Which is why we try not to give hard numbers on either how many you can have active or what the performance hit is.
We're always working to increase performance but it's very situational so one user could see better performance with 6.1 while another user may not.
