Way to limit processor usage? Slowing computers down

Our company has all of our computers set to do a complete system scan every Wednesday night, while people are at home. The thing is, we have a lot of laptops, and any computer that's turned off or away from the office tends to not scan until the computer makes it back to the office first thing Thursday morning. Generally this tends to result in the computers being very slow for an hour or two while they're scanning the data, particularly if Windows Defender and Diskeeper defrag start running at about the same time.

Checking the task manager, rtvscan.exe is generally the process using most of the system resources. Is there a way to limit the amount of processor Antivirus can use, or make it play a little nicer with the computer. We've got users who get fed up and just force quit the scan, which obviously isn't a very good way to go about protecting the computer.
