Dear friends,
Frequently we are facing issue with our staging server out of four staging servers.problem is that unexpectedly it it going down and in activity monitor showing that tape media server isnot active then we need to make it up and restart services.but not able fing cause ..can anybody help me on this.we are on netbackup6.5.1 windows server 2003 sp2.

Here are some suggestions:
Have you looked in the Windows System Event Log and Windows Application Event Log on the media server to see if any of the NetBackup processes are dying with a Dr. Watson error? Likewise, the services would post a message in there if they were told to shutdown gracefully.
Try upgrading to NetBackup 6.5.4 on your NetBackup master/EMM server and your NetBackup media servers. A lot of bugs have been found and fixed in NetBackup 6.5 between the time when NetBackup 6.5.1 was released in December 2007 and when NetBackup 6.5.4 was released in June 2009. In addition, NetBackup 6.5.1 does not have support for Windows Server 2008 computers. Since you mentioned that you are using Windows Server 2003 as your media server platform, the odds are pretty good that you have other Windows servers in your environement and you will probably be deploying Windows Server 2008 clients fairly soon (if you haven't already).

s..john as u suggested i checked in system and application event viewer for dr.watson error .but i dont see any errors related to watson...as we are planing to migrate to 6.5.4 that discussion is going on..we willbe migrating soon..thanks for ur suggestion...
