Good questions.  You are correct - SWG 4.5 is the enhanced version of the formerly Mi5 Networks Appliances.  The new SWG-8450 and SWG-8490 are most comperable to the Mi5 Webgate 005 and Mi5 Webgate 009, however a direct comparison cannot be made with previous appliances due to generational differences in hardware components.

Using AD usernames and workgroups.... and creating different configuration policies for content filtering.  Is there an evaluation order to allow or block access to categories if an user belong to multiple Organizational Units or workgroups and each group has a different policy ??

Example : 

Policy # 1 - Apply to workgroup HR - All Content Filtering categories Allowed
Policy # 2 - Apply to workgroup Managers - All categories are blocked

What is the behavior for an user member of the HR and Managers groups ??

Is the evaluation order only for malware detection ??

The drill down reports end with info like : google.com as the visited site. 

Any configuration allow us to see the full URL ??   something like :

I am supporting an agency that has installed a Gateway 360R.  When they enable loadbalancing they start to drop our secure connection.  We know from past experiance that devices that do not have the ability to loadbalance by session or IP have this problem, and Symantec mentions this issue in Document ID: 2004120610281454.  The device has the latest firmware, are there any current solutions to this issue?

1. is there any documentation for the content filtering policies? e.g. what does "File and Active Content Detection" mean? which Files are affected by this policy?
2. is it planned to have an overview page showing the LDAP Sync status in later Versions of Web Gateway Software?
3. is there any possibility to classify an "Unclassfied URL"  to another class? e.g. if symantec.com is an unclassified URL it would be nice when I can classify it to "Security" by a click.

Hello,

1) There is documentation built into SWG via the contextual help.  When you are creating a Policy, press the Help link in the lower left to bring up a full list of documentation for all of the settings on this page.  You can actually do this for any aspect of the SWG interface.
2) Interesting request - this should be something we consider for a future version.
3) We actually ask that you submit that request to the URL Content folks so we can make the changes globally.  There's a link at the top of the Policy Page that allows you to check the classification of a URL and then suggest reclassification of that URL if necessary.  If you provide an email address, you will receive an email when your request has been processed.  Typically requests are processed within1 biz days.

I need to know where I can find the list of Event IDs for log messages.

We recently purchased a 8450 to replace our Websense solution. Even though it reports some of our workstations as being blocked we are unable to enforce blocking at all. We are using the content filtering and have tried blacklist and content exceptions without any luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

These are showing links to "like" buttons on banner adds as hits and not just links.  How can we differentiate to show they weren't actual hits? I have included part of the report.  All of those hits are actually from imbedded ads.

So just to add a bit more clarity here, as mentioned in the SKU the hardware does come with a 3 year warranty.  If a customer has hardware problems they log a support case with Symantec, Symantec then arrange with Dell for the hardware to be repaired.
