  • 1.  Wha is the exact function of the "Add a server"

Such as when I add an e mail server, proxy server or Domain controller in there, what does that do? Does it benefit on installation? What settings does it delegate, I just discovered it this afternoon and have yet to add any major servers. I just would like to have more information on how this is beneficial and/or if it is even necessary. Sorry, i know it sounds remedial, but better to be safe than sorry.

    Thank you.

    These are optional settings
Add E mail server - To be used if you configure notifications
Add Proxy server - If are using a proxy server.
Domain controllers - If you like to be sinchronized it with active directory. can be if you use NT accounts as SEPM login accounts or groups in AD.

I think you are asking about settings under admin-->servers-->server properties.

Mail server:-- If you configure this option you can have scheduled report directly mailed to you inbox from SEPM. You can set SMTP server details and it send scheduled reports to your mail ID.

Proxy server:-- If your setup uses proxy for connecting to internet you can add it here... SEPM pulls updates using that proxy.

Domain controller:-- If you want to integrate SEPM with active directory you can do that by adding a domain controller... You can get the same structure as AD in SEPM console.

Check  Installation Guide for more details..
You can find it in the CD 1 documentation folder..
