I face this quetion in one of my interview...
just give a brief explanation

Backup software : Symantic Netbackup
OS                         : Solaris

ALTPATH is used on a Windows master when moving the image catalog. The process is decribed in Admin Guide I for Windows under the topic 'Moving the image catalog'.
Moving catalogs on Unix master does not need the ALTHPATH file - you create a symbolic link to the new catalog folder.
