can you please tell me what are the different between task server and package sever?
Quick Look Solution
A Package server provides a
A Package server provides a local repository for software packages so clients have a local source to download packages from rather than downloading them over the WAN.

Hi andykb101
I have installed the task services on one system but it’s still not reflecting SMC.
Can you please help me for the same and tell me what could be reason for it?
Thanks & Regards,

I do not know what you mean
I do not know what you mean by "reflecting SMC".
How did you install Task Services? Did you use the Site Server Settings page from the Symantec Management Console?
Did you make sure all the pre requisites were installed on the Site Server first?

Task Service checkbox
Task Service checkbox disabled if:
1. IIS is not installed
2. Basic inventory from the box, where TS should be installed is not yet available on SMP.
My suggestion would be:
1. uninstall the TS, as it is probably non-functional
2. review the TS install video: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/task-server-videos
3. install IIS and MS Framework 3.5 (if this is 7.1.SP2 release).
4. Send basic inventory from computer to NS, update the collections and install TS from the Site-Servers page.
Thank you,
Alex.
You need to read the Symantec
You need to read the Symantec Management Platform guide. You must install Task Service using that check box, not manually.

Our all the systems are on
Our all the systems are on WAN and we do not have much bandwidth to deploy the task server through SMC (Symantec management console 7.1 SP2). Hence we are taking a Set up file and run it manually. We have already carried out this activity for 10 locations but here only we are facing a problem. We have already install IIS and dotnet 3.5 on the client system.
Please suggest.

Make sure the Server at least has the option to install Task server from the console available, until then do not install the Task Server manually.
When you do install the Task Server manually, run:
Is IIS installed with IIS 6 compatibility?

Please verify:
1. System with Task Server has services "atrshost" and "CTADataLoader" up and running
2. You may ping the SMP from the TS box
3. If we are talking about the 7.1.SP2 when MS Framework 3.5 should be installed before the TS install.
Please take a look at the TS install videos:

Look in the agent of the
Look in the agent of the machine not showing as Task Server and see if "Altiris Client Task Server Agent" is listed. If it isn't your install failed, probably because you ahven't got .NET Framework.

1. There are instructions in
1. There are instructions in the Symantec Management Platform Users Guide, "Preparing a Windows 2008 R2/7 computer with IIS 7.0 for use as a task server", that you can use to make sure all required features are installed.
2. The Symantecf Management Agent should show the Task Server installed in its list of plug-ins.
3. When you run the msi to install the Task Server use a command like:
4. Unless you are using Deployment Solution to deploy images you don't need a Task Server on every site, they don't help with bandwidth, they only offload processing from the Notification Server.
