  • 1.  What does "device(s) are not capable of running this task" mean?

I've setup a simple task that runs a script.
I setup the schedule as a shared schedule and then selected the computers by using the Target option and then setup a specific AD OU. When the list populates, I get this:

Target - 65 device(s) 35 device(s) are not capable of running this task. What does this mean? Does it mean that 35 computers in this OU do not have the agent installed?

    Thanks,
    Tim

Either they don't have the base agent, or for example, if you were running an inventory agent task, and the systems had the base agent and NOT the inventory plug-in, you would see the same or similar message.

Will computers in the OUs in the Target run this task once they get the agent or will I have to setup the target every time computers get the agent?  Thanks, Tim

I believe the default is 30 minutes, although you can modify it. So, the task will eventually show as a failure in the console. You will have to rerun it. The error will be 'client failed to pick up task', or something similar.

I didn't mention that this task runs every night to shut down computers.  Here's what  mean:

I know computers that had the agent at the time the targets were setup will run the task.
Will computers in the Target OU that did not have the agent at the time the targets were added run the task once they have the agent?

I'm not sure if I need to do anything once the task is setup.  I'm sure you know that I'd like to have a "set it and forget it" task.
    Thanks again,
    Tim

If it's a scheduled task, you should not have to change anything. Once the systems get the client installed, they should run it on the next schedule.
