What does this error mean?

I got this during a backup of my SQL doing a differentail. I'm doing a backup of the .bak file actually. It's worked unitl I lost a drive on my NAS last week. using 2012 fully patched. no DAG

Have you tried to recreate the job itself? I've seen some weird issues arise with HDD failures! Especially after a failure has been detected and the HDD replaced.

I think this actually was part of my other errors: had some B2D errors in event viewer and ended up running chkdsk X:\ /f and then re ran the jobs and they worked. Sounds exactly like mine as I lost part of my NAS last week too! thanks for the answer
