What does license mean

Created: 03 Jan 2008 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 2 comments

We are looking into purchasing 11.x  We have four servers (one Web) all are Win Server 2003. How many licenses do we need to purchase? One per Server?  Reading the liturature I can't tell if the 5-user license means 5 servers or not.

there are two components to SEP:

1. The SEPM - Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager - the enterprise management console - this does not contain any form of AV protection

2. The SEP Client - Symantec Endpoint Protection Client - the AV/AS/TruScan/FW/IDS client component that can be installed on both server and client OS's

SEP itself is licensed on SEP clients - these can be managed or unmanaged.  If you have 5 servers and want to install AV protection onto them all, you need 5 SEP licenses - there is no requirement to license SEPM separately you can have as many as you need, you just pay for client licenses.

Does that help?
