  • 1.  What does a Startup Scan scan? How deep?

What exactly does a Startup Scan scan?

Everything?  Same as an Active Scan?  Only startup/boot sector files?

I've watched several eLibrary videos, and done several knowledge base searches, but I can only find details about configuration.  I know how to configure it.  What I need to know is what is involved with the scan.  Some of my clients are complaining that pc startup takes too long, and are rebooting several times on purpose to disrupt/stop the scan.  If I can tell them that it's not a full, deep scan and only a partial one like an Active Scan, I can probably persuade them to stop doing these shutdowns.  I just need to know for sure.

Seriously.  I can't find any specifics about what is in a startup scan anywhere.

It only scans the most common load points where malware likes to reside. It's not a full scan.

It shouldn't take but 10 minutes (if that) to run.

Thanks very much.  That's exactly what I needed to know.  I still don't see anything about Startup Scans or what they do in that HOWTO article, but I'll go with what you've advised.

Yes Brain is rite startup scan most common load points and takes less time. You can disable it on the low configuration machines so that machine will start fast.

These are the common load points

Quick scan will a combination of above and this

If you are facing any performance issues you can disable these scans as there is Realtime scan ( Autoprotect) which protects whenever  a file/ modified or accessed. A scheduled full scan would take care of everything.
