What features are different between RU6 MP3 and RU7 MP3?

All my SEP clients (500+) are currently running on RU6 MP3. We will be migrating to version 12.1 within the next 6 to 8 months. i wanted to know if it makes sense to update the clients to version RU7 MP3 right now or just wait untill we upgrade to the latest version of the software.

What features are changed between RU6 and RU7?

There we quite few fixes which can be seen from the release notes

Suggest to directly upgrade to 12.1 as the migration path is supported. As RU7 is not supported

Exceptions for an upgrade:

The 11.0 RU7, RU7 MP1, and RU7 MP2 SEPM contains SQL schema changes that are newer than the schema used by 12.1. For this reason, migrations from certain 11.0 RU7 to 12.1 versions are not supported, and are prevented by the installer.

Thanks Rafeeq for the quick response. i will take your advice and directly upgrade to 12.1.

I hope you meant that you were going to upgrade to 12.1 RU1 or RU2 as the base 12.1 will not handle clients running 11.0.7 anyway.  Here is what I did.  I had a mixtue of 11.0.6 and 11.0.7 with a SEPM server running 11.0.7.

1) I backed up the database and the server several times before doing anything.

2) I shut down the SEPM services on the master and grabbed the latest 12.1 RU2 install making sure I got 32-bit vs. 64-bit correct.  Then ran the setup.

3) I verified that all the clients were still communicating, did liveupdate tests, scan tests.

4) I reviewed the policies.  All of them.  Things change between versions.  If I made any changes, they got tested.  I did not expect any of the new features to work on the old clients but I also made sure that they didn't do any damage.

5) I then checked the groups and removed any leftover install packages from them.  I checked on the new client install packages that were created and checked install settings, etc.

6) I tested the push install to make sure it worked and it did.

7) I set up an auto-upgrade for a small group of clients and made sure that this worked.  Then upgraded the rest of the groups.  In some cases, I did not want the install to be on the C: drive so I did an uninstall and push install to those few clients.

No issues were found except for making policy exceptions, especially with SONAR and INSIGHT.

You do have to note that 12.1 RU1 is the first to suppost upgrading 11.0.7 clients but I found no need to go to 12.1 or 12.1 RU1 and went straight for the latest version, RU2.

I had just wanted to point out that although correct that you can't upgrade 11.0.7 to 12.1, it works fine for upgrading that to 12.1 RU2.
