What IS Notification Server?

We own Deployment Solution 6.9 and that is it. Now I am investigating the Help Desk Solution and the webpage says it requires Notification Server but I can't seem to find out what that is. Is it a major expense?

Hello Jane,
Notification Server is a web based solution which allows plugins for various functions, such as software delivery, helpdesk, patch management, and asset management (amongst others).
Notification Server itself is free, but the solutions are what cost money (for licensing, by node).
All of the documentation is available here: http://www.altiris.com/Support/Documentation.aspx. Prior to the acquisition of Altiris by Symantec, the products were sold in Suite levels. Although that appears to be changing, think of it this way; The more you want to do (in terms of management) the more expensive it will be.

Thanks. That makes sense. I do think long ago you had to pay extra for Notification Server so that was what I was looking for.
