  • 1.  What is the official word on Windows 7 support?

    Posted May 24, 2010 05:00 PM

According to the product page, Windows 7 is not listed as compatible for installation of the client agent.  http://www.symantec.com/business/products/sysreq.jsp?pcid=pcat_business_cont&pvid=cm_suite_1

I see traces of support listed in various KB articles and forums posts but nothing official.

If Windows 7 is not or partially supported:
    • Can I get an official response on what sub-agents are supported with Windows 7?
    • What is the estimated time frame for full Windows 7 support?
    • What is the current consensus from current deployment attempts?

Windows 7 is supported by CMS 7.0 SP2.  The official support article is located at:

    https://kb.altiris.com/display/1n/articleDirect/index.asp?aid=46349.

Check out the PDF's and XLS spreadsheets attached to the article.  These files are updated with each SP or .x release.  I hope this addresses youor question.

You say it has support but I was unable to validate from the linked KB's attached documents as the CMS document never mentions Windows 7 and the SMP implicitly identifies the lack of support for the services but it is my understanding that this is server only.  My concern is client managmnet using the NS 7.0 SP4 HF1 and DS 6.9 SP3.

Can you please proivide an official document that supports your claim?

the two .xlsx documents on the side? The CMS one has a tab for OS version support for various solutions, which includes Windows 7.

Thanks, I was looking at a PDF I thought I opened from the KB.  A new issue cropped up, my system dosn't have the WingDings 2 font required to identify the inclusion and exclusion tags used in the XLSX document.

Anyway, I found anouther system which did have the font and verified the information I needed.  smiley
