  • 1.  What is the "Symantec EndPoint Protection Integration Component"

    Posted Sep 30, 2010 04:38 PM

My organization recently purchased "Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Ed. 12.0".  This product will replace our previous "expiring" Symantec Enterprise (11.0) product.  The purchase included several downloads:  Documentation, SEP Integration Component, SEP UnmanagedClientOnly, and a zipped installation PC.   I've unzipped the installation PC and am prepping a server for the install.  The documentation download has been unzipped and read.  I'm now puzzled as to where the SEP Integration Component fits in this picture???  Will the installation CD ask for the Integration Component??  during install??

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration Component is a free solution for customers to facilitate easier SEP client migrations/installations, provide client health remediation and integrated operational reporting from the Symantec Management Platform 7.0 console (Altiris).

More information is provided at the following url: http://www.altiris.com/Campaigns/SEPIC.aspx

You could also get more information by speaking with Altiris support.

Please note that SEP 12 is a different product than SEP 11.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition does not support migration from Symantec Endpoint Protection 11’s Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) to Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition’s Symantec Protection Center (SPC). SEPM will have to be uninstalled prior to installing Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition’s Symantec Protection Center. If desired the Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 policies can be exported and imported into the Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition’s Symantec Protection Center after installation.

I had already planned to uninstall the previous Symantec AV.  I've read the material on the "SEP Integration Component" and I'm still unclear as to what exactly it does? or why I need to run it?  or where I run it (e.g. client or server)??  I expect to put the SEP management console, db, etc. on one server, and run the rest of my network as managed clients.  Perhaps in this eviron I don't need the Integration Component?

You wont need SEP integration component at all. Its an Advanced component which fits in with Notification Servers,  Altiris and SEP 11.
