We are seeing more and more machines using 64-bit XP, VISTA, and soon windows 7.  Where is the support for this.  We have been forced to purchase an addtional product to provide the application and device control that is supposed to be in SEP for each of these machines.

knightstorm I completely agree with you.  Its as if Symantec has designed SEP for a world with 32 bit XP machines.  We are a small business (less than 150 employees) and we use 64bit XP and already have begun playing with 64bit Windows 7.    So I would have to think many larger companies are moving in that direction.  Why isn't there more complaining about this?  On 64bit machines Internet Email Protection does not work, nor does Proactive Threat Protection, nor does Application and Device Control, you can't right-click on an individual file and select "Scan for virus", system lockdown does not work, parts of Tamper Protection do not work, and the list goes on (see kb document #2007022310384648).

I have told all my 64bit Vista users that they will be the first ones infected LOL.   Seriously though this is a huge concern and I hope someone at Symantec responds to this.

    Greetings,

We know that 64bit support is a concern, I would point you over to the Ideas forum to vote/post on this. I believe that more 64bit support is forthcoming though I cannot provide any specifics on it at this point.

Ideas forum????  ALL of our new workstations will be running a 64-bit OS and WE NEED WHAT WE PAID FOR.  This is an enterprise package, and lack of 64-bit support is unexcusable at this time. The need for this should be a self-evident truth, not an "idea".

    Greetings knightstorm,

I, as well as the rest of our technicians, agree with you on this statement. The whole reason for the "Ideas" forum is so our developers can allocate resources based upon what our customers want us to add. It's not really an "idea" in the literal sense, its more of a vote for the feature. The items at the top of the ideas list, as far as votes go, are what our developers will set a higher priority on as thats what more people want added.

That's not to say the rest of the issues will not be addressed, its just what gets addressed quicker.

A large portion of the exploit code out there usually does not target the x64 systems and does not properly function on x64...but that's security through obscurity.

We need device control to protect from internal as well as external risks

This is not feature request or something that customers want you to add, This is something MUST HAVE. no need to vote. period.

Yes - this is an old post - and we all are still waiting for answers.  Can't someone tell us when we can expect this.  "In development" is not an acceptable answer at this point.

Unfortunaetly noone will answer for you.
I started a thread on this, January 2009.  That's over 20 months ago.
It was originally slated Q4 2009 and than pushed into 2010.
We are now encroaching on Q3 2010...  You will likely always get the standard response of: "we're working on it"...
