What's the liveupdate behavior in new installation SEP client with Basic Content

Created: 03 Jan 2013 | 3 comments

In order to save bandwidth and C drive space, we deploy SEP with basic content to client.

my question is :

1. What's the liveupdate behavior in new installation SEP client?

in our environment, we found that SEP client will automatically run liveupdate occasionally, and at 12:02AM everyday after the first day.

Until there is available definition from the UNC definition share folder.

After that , it won't run at 12:02AM anymore till schedule date (we set a weekly schedule for auto downloading)

2. What size the definition file will use ? in C or E drive ?(program is installed in E drive) for the first time

Many thanks

As far as LiveUpdate goes, your description does appear to be accurate as to how it works.  On installation,  a schedule is atuomatically created to run at midnight every night until it has some sort of definition.  Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any Symantec articles that confirm/document this behaviour.

As per your other thread, you could try some of the SEP MSI switches to disable the LU on install.  The below article may help in this regard (which essentiall says to change the setaid.ini and setup.ini files):

As far as disk space usage goes, please take a peek at the below article:

it will kick off after the install. once its' completed and policy being updated, it should run as scheduled.
