We have an existing infrastructure with multiple model PCs and Laptops that are spread throughout our County.

Currently if a PC goes down, we go out to the site with a Ghost boot disc and use Ghostcast to reimage the machine. This has worked fine in the past but I would like to find a way to not ever have to visit the site for imaging.

I know we can load the Ghost client on the remote machines and use the Ghost Console to reimage but that only works if the OS is functioning correctly.

I wish we would have been able to install the Ghost Boot partition because all the images were created as this would have solved my issue but we have too many machines to try and start all over.

Are there any other options available to will allow me to push a image to a client machine with a non-functioning OS? I've looked at PXE but I am not familiar enough with and can't seem to understand how to get it setup.

There is a lot of good info in these documents.  It covers PXE setup in great detail.  Let me know if I can help any further.  I have setup PXE deployment for my company and have seen much success.  I did most of it by going through these docs.

I use client for 95% of everything and PXE w/ wake on lan for the rest. You'll probably always need someone on sight who can network boot the PC if needed, but any warm body should be able to do that. I would recommend enabling PXE in the bios on every PC and also setting WOL to boot to NIC. That way your machines will always boot normally for the users, but if you shut it down and then use WOL, it will network boot.

To setup the server get your hands on the 3com boot services app. install everything but bootp (unless your using static IPs) Run the 3com tftp & pxe as programs while you're configuring them. Once you get everything working the way you want i, I recommend running them as services. Also, using wildcards ('?') in your bootptab file will make life easier.
