    hello!

i'm working in the field of computer forensic. in order to reduce the to examine data is a hash-database (a database with md5 (or sha-1, sha256) hash values of files they came from legal programs (p.e. Microsoft Windows, Office, Adobe Reader and so on).

a well known database is the The National Software Reference Library (http://www.nsrl.nist.gov/new.html).

my idea is not only the current files to be downloaded, but also older virus defintion files (and to make the needed md5, sha1, sha256 hashes per script).

any idea where i can download older files? if I saw it right on the ftp-server i can only download the last three days?!

    many thanks in advance

yes, only last 3 definition are placed on ftp. for older files you may need to contact tech support. However I understand that it will not be available all the time.

    Hello,

I accept. However, with Symantec incase you require older Definitions, you could either make sure you store with the proper settings on the SEPM, so that as and when required you could rollback to the older definitions.

    Check this Articles:

How to Backdate Virus Definitions in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102935

Disk Space Management procedures for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

Again, on the SEP clients, only 3 definitions would be stored by default.

Incase, you want the Older definitions (other than uploaded files on the FTP server) for testing purposes, then you may have to create a case with Symantec Technical Support.

    Hope that helps!!
