  • 1.  Which client to use on a GUP

    Posted May 19, 2015 10:18 AM

    Hi,

I have been reading that there is a problem with 12.1.5 clients being used on a GUP. Apparently there are some problems. So the advice was to stick with an older client on GUP's only. Can anyone confirm to me if this correct? My environment is 12.1.5

    Thanks

    PaulC

Yes you be using 12.1.4 due to the bugs present in 12.1.5. One thread here https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/gup-error-0

    Hello,

yet, SEP 12.1.4 as GUP may crash, 12.1.3 as GUP is more stable. You may consider to wait a bit more for 12.1.6, it is expected for this month.

Yes, few customers have reported SEP 12.1 RU5 GUP releated issue but those can be environment specific however I would recommend to upgrade directly to RU6 .

SEP 12.1 RU6 is on it's way for release, you can expect it soon.

    I shall update once 12.1 RU6 released.

    Hi,

SEP 12.1 RU6 is now released & it has a following fixes related to GUP.

GUP fails to retrieve content from SEPM with error: “GUProxy - not enough memory”

    Fix ID: 3652490

Symptom: The Symantec Endpoint Protection client cannot download the full definition contents (full.zip) when multiple concurrent full.zip downloads are in progress from the Group Update Provider.

Solution: Added support for multiple concurrent full.zip content downloads from the Group Update Provider.

After a GUP upgrades to 12.1 RU5, ccSvcHst.exe crashes and creates multiple dump files

    Fix ID: 3692462

Symptom: The process ccSvcHst.exe crashes and creates multiple dump files after upgrading the Group Update Provider to 12.1 RU5.

Solution: Updated the code to handle string buffer resize exceptions to avoid process crash.

Clients are incorrectly identified as GUPs

    Fix ID: 3639309

Symptom: Clients are incorrectly defined as Group Update Providers when the client hostname contains repeating letters.

Solution: Fixed the string comparison algorithm to correctly determine a string pattern match.

Still using RU3 without any hassles. Will test RU6 and see if it works without crashing since earlier versions.
