This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

Running EV9.0.2.

The EV search.asp Help page says:

For a message, the date is when the message was sent, received, or created. For other items, the date is when the item was last modified. Specify a range of dates. You must enter the date in the format that is standard for your Web server.

I am a bit confused what date is used when searching..... Let's say I have mail sent on 12 Dec 2011. It is received on 15 Dec 2012 (slow interwebs).

When I search in EV search.asp or Discovery Accelerator, is this message going to come up as 12 Dec or 15 Dec?

If you are searching for received emails then it wil be the recieve date...if you are searching for sent emails then it will be sent date. Your example is a bit confusing....are you sending to yourself?

Anyway, if you are reveiving an external email that was delayed say in your example then it will be the receive date as the message was created in your mailbox when you recieved it. If you are sending the message to yourself and it got delayed for whatever reason then it will be the sent date as it was created in your mailbox when it was sent, in this case you will also get a result for the recieved item as well provided that date range is inclusive etc.

Hope that explains a little better.

So, in the Discovery Accelerator client, there is an option where you pick the date. Same in the EV search webpage. What I'm interested in is what is that date field exactly - sent/received/created?

I think LCT is right.

In the end it's 99.9% either the sent date (if it's archived items in your sent items folder, and sent to someone else)... or the received date (if it's archived items in one of your regular folders, received by you, and sent by someone else).

Many Thanks,

Rob

What about journaled items? That's what I am most interested in.

The reason I am asking this, we have stuff getting emailed to a journaling mailbox. When I search for journaled items via DA or EV, I need to know what date is being searched on that journaled email. Is it the date received, the date sent, the date created, etc.

Thanks

I would say it's the received date, because these are items in the inbox of the journal mailbox.

Can't find any evidence of that, contact me offline if you want to discuss how we could work together to test out that theory.

Many Thanks,

Rob

It is the received date on the journaled emails, I ran a few of tests to confirm that. Thanks for everyone's assistance.
