    Hi Ghost Gurus,

I need to define a Ghost solution but I don't know wich solution to choose. I need some advice...

    My needs:

I have 1 server and 5 clients. I want to "Ghost" each client on the server. I also want to make a "Ghost" the server.

    PC configuration:

    • 2 PC with W2K
    • 3 PC with XP
    • 1 server with Win server 2008 R2 standard

All the PC are in a domain controlled by the server.

Somebody can help me to choose the right solution?

    Thanks in advance.

There is only one Ghost Solution Suite product - version 2.5.1 at build 2266.  This is NOT the Norton Ghost retail product which you may be confusing it with.

Ghost installed on the server would allow you to image the clients, and by creating an external WinPE boot solution with the appropriate drivers, you could boot the server with this to create an image of its operating system partition.

    Thanks EdT for your answers.

This is true, I'm confused with the two product. I used Norton Ghost some years ago and now in need to define a backup my customer.

Ghost Solution Suite seem to be the product I need, but my needs are quite simple.

Ghost Solution Suite is it not much for my problem? May I will buy a Ferrari where I just need a 2CV (sorry I'm French wink)?

May be 1 Norton ghost per PC is enough?

I do not believe that the Norton Ghost product is intended for server imaging, but if you want more relevant and detailed information on Norton Ghost products (based on Powerquest technology not Ghost technology), there is a dedicated Norton Ghost community here:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/need-support-symantec-ghost-or-norton-ghost

(it's a sticky posting at the top of this forum)

I don't know the exact pricing but I don't think there is much difference between Ghost Solution Suite which comes with 5 licenses at entry level, and five copies of Norton Ghost.

I also don't think that there will be a big difference between the two solution. I think that GSS is the product I need.

You wrote that GSS comes with 5 licences at the entry level. This include the server or I need to buy additionnal licence (1 server + 5 clients) ?

I am not sure of the answer to this licensing question. Ghost licensing requires one license for each client machine, so I suspect you would need to have a license for the server if it becomes a client at some point.
