    Hi All,

Which SEP client to deploy for my Windows 7 workstation that is 64 bit ?

At the moment the WIndows 7 workstation, eventhough they are 64 bit, the SEP client is 32 bit since v 11.0.4000 deployed.

use the latest version  of SEP 11 or SEP 12.1 client , which  can be used to deploy on 64 bit WIn 7 machine.

In the Installation package under Admin --> tab ( in SEPM) you can find the install package for 32 bit and 64 bit, use this link to create a package and install

    Thanks for the reply Pete,

So does this means that my Windows clients must use the 64 bit SEP client ? rahter than 32 bit client ?

    Hello,

There is no version of SEPM 64 bit.but you can export 64 bit Package form SEPM server.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) is a console which is intelligent enough to check itself and install itself on any type Operating System (32 bit / 64 bit)

How do I create and configure a custom Symantec Endpoint Protection installation package in version 12.1?

Yes, that does make sense Pete, so what if I accidentally deployed 32 bit SEP client to the whole 64 bit workstation ?

are they going to work as normal ?

What are the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit client?

You can auto upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit

You can assign a 32-bit and 64-bit package to the same group when you do an auto-upgrade and both clients will automatically upgrade. You don't have to create separate groups for 32-bit and 64-bit clients.

What are the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit client?

     LAUNCHED PROCESSES AND MEMORY USE

    1. 64 bit version of SEP beta client uses following processes using a given amount of physical memory

    • Smc.exe, running in 64 bit mode, taking ca. 6500-7500Kb of RAM
    • SymCorpUI, running in 32 bit mode, taking ca. 7600-7900Kb of RAM
    • SmcGui.exe, running in 64 bit mode, taking ca. 2600-4000Kb of RAM
    • SavUI.exe, running in 32 bit mode, taking ca. 3000Kb of RAM
    • ccSvcHst.exe, in 32 bit mode, taking ca. 2-17Mb of RAM

    Hello,

SEP 11.0.5 (RU5) and later version is compatible with WIN 7 .

You can install SEP 64 bit unamanged client  on WIN 7 or You need to upgrade SEPM ,if you want it to be managed .

Your upgrade path should be as below

    11.0.4 -->11.0.7     OR    11.0.4--> 12.1 RU1

    Hi Dushan,

I would like to answer following questions.

Yes, that does make sense Pete, so what if I accidentally deployed 32 bit SEP client to the whole 64 bit workstation ?

--> It won't get deployed, you will have to install 32bit package on 32 bit operating system.

are they going to work as normal ?

--> you will have to install 64 bit clients package difference would be in SEP functionality.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 compatibility with 64-bit platform

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH102143

What are the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit client?

-->  Difference is as mentioned above i.e. functionality.

As everyone suggested SEP 11.0.5 (RU5) and later version is compatible with WIN 7.
