  • 1.  Which source to use to install SEP + SNAC

    Posted Aug 21, 2009 12:07 AM
We are currently running SEP 11 MR2 with SNAC enforcer. We are considering to install a new SEP server or migrating to SEP 11 MR4 MP2. But we got lost to the source. We downloaded the following sources from Symantec.
    - Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4202_MR4_MP2_AllWin_EN_CD1
    - Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4202_MR4_MP2_AllWin_EN_CD2
    - Symantec_Network_Access_Control_11.0.4000_MR4_MP1_AllWin_EN

Which one should we use to install or migrate? In our concept, we are using SEP client WITH Network Access Control option enabled. Is it correct? Should we install SEP first than install SNAC as an addition? Or we can directly install the SNAC which will provide the full SEP function? As the installation guide in both SEP and SNAC are the same. We are getting lost on the installation path.

    Please help. Thanks in advance.

    You can directly use Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4202_MR4_MP2_AllWin_EN_CD2.

    Extract Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4202_MR4_MP2_AllWin_EN_CD1

Inside that u will find one setup file u can run that..
    or
You will find SEPM folder... Go inside that and run setup..

After the setup wizard you will get upgradation wizard and  click next . next.. finish..

Before doing that u take backup of SEPM....

You just have to paste the license file inside the licenses folder and restart the SEPM service. That enables SANC conponent..  NO need to  reinstall...

    Thanks everyone.

Can I say SEP (Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.4202_MR4_MP2_AllWin_EN_CD1) already include the SNAC function?

    shp:
What license file should I deal with?

I am sorry that the existing SEPM was not installed by me. I am quite new to the installation.

Since u have all the components installed i think just the upgrade is enough

Just go through this link u will find out how to install SEPM and enable SANC from the available CD's

    Follow the Migration links....

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008070715030248

    About licnese file....

license file is called snac.xml. It will be there in %SNAC CD%\SEPM\ you have to copy to %Program Files%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\license\

    Then restart the Endpoint Manager.

Thanks everyone. I follow shp's instruction and finished the upgrade. I havn't copy the license file from SNAC CD but it seems that everything still works fine. Will keep monitoring.

    Thanks.

Once SNAC is installed along with EP 11 you only need to run one upgrade package and it will upgrade both SNAC and EP 11.  If you have not installed SNAC do not copy the snac.xml file to: %Program Files%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\license\, because this will not complete the installation.  If you just copy the snac.xml file you will not be able to connect an enforecer appliance.
