Which Wise solution should we choose?
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 6 comments
Our current software deployment environment is a mixture of RIPs (for small programs) and scripts for .exe's witih transform files (like Microsoft Office).
If we were moving to a more current method of software deployment, what solution would it be? I admit I'm not familiar with the different Wise options from Altiris. When we first came onboard with Altiris Deployment Solution, we learned all about RIPs -- only to be told our new knowledge was already obsolete.
This particular environment is approximately 1000 seats.

What's a RIP? This forum is for users of Wise Installation Studio, and it's to assist them with authoring Windows Installer setup packages and WiseScript setup packages. You might get better answers if you posted this in the Deployment Solutions forum.
So none of the Altiris Wise tools are designed for deployment, but only for developers? In other words, if I want to take a program that already exists and deploy it, I should head over to the Deployment Solution forums?

I can't effectively answer that. This forum is for setup authors. How those setups are deployed is another thing altogether. There is some overlap, of course. Don't forget that Altiris bought Wise for their setup and repackaging tools. Deployment in the enterprise is not what Wise as all about. That's Altiris' specialty. Deployment Solutions seems like a more logical choice, but I don't know. Perhaps a quick look at the main Altiris page and their products might help point the way.
Thanks, Bill. That's helpful.

Correct.
The Wise tools are for creating installers for software. They do not provide deployment services.
If you are looking for deployment tools, the DS and NS forums are the places to go.
If your issue has been solved, please use the "Mark as Solution" link on the most relevant thread.
