  • 1.  While creating Client Install Feature Set applications will not respond

    Posted Jan 04, 2012 07:21 AM

I've just installed SEP 12.1 RU1 as test for an upgrade of our 11.x enviroment.

I want to make a different Client Install Feature Set to rollout to the clients. It's the standard set but without the Network Threat Protection.

When I create this, my complete management console hangs within the window, the program itself will not get the title (Not Responding) or something like that, but I cann use anything within the program. I've let it run for an hour or so, but nothing happens. When I make this same feature set on my 11.x console, it is done in literally 3 seconds.

Any help would be highy appreciated..

    Hello,

Could you provide us with a Screenshot on where exactly the freeze happens??

Does that happen when you are creating the package OR when you are deploying the package??

    Hi,

You should try to repair SEPM through add/remove programs.

Might help to resolve your issue.

Ok, without any reason whatsoever the program managed to make a client install feature set again. I did not change any configuration at all..

But the strange thing is that the deployment is not working AGAIN. This was my first problem, so I solved this by running the setup again, but now the deployment of clients is halted again, the program says it's deploying clients, but will remain on 0%. Also on the client nothing happens..

Must I repeat the process everytime I want to rollout a client by "repairing" the management console?

the package may not be pushed on clients, check if there is firewall settings that is stopping package.

Firewalls are disabled on the clients..

I removed SEP from the clients, rebooted them and then wanted to redeploy a SEP client, but now I get the error that I was getting before, so I did this:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/deployment-freezes

Then I got those client feature set problems, those disappeared without any reason, then I wanted to deploy a client again, it does not work so I used again:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/deployment-freezes

And now they don't want to deploy at all..

I thought 12.x was much better coded that 11.x but it's stilly buggy software IMHO

I suggest to open a ticket with Symantec support. The deplyment has been tested successfully, there might be some issue which can be analyzed from Support team.

FWIW, I have the exact same issue.  I found that after I installed the upgraded SEP client on my SEPM (it had been running the previous version), the client build functioned for a bit. However, it stopped working after a bit, so it may have just been the SEPM reboot after the client upgrade.

I opened a support case and spent a significant amount of time troubleshooting the issue.  In the end, there was no resolution other than to perform a complete uninstall, re-install, disaster recovery routine. I have yet to attempt this, as it's a significant undertaking.  I'll likely end up finding a new server, building from scratch and migrating the current environment.

I've had successful upgrades since v.7.5 and have never had as many issues as with this latest version. Installation and upgrade went without error, but it seems there are a number of issues with things not functioning correctly, or not functioning at all...
