hi

Its just for the same reason  like u  run format your drive before using it and its just a recommendation as I had seen that the backup still works if you have not ran an erase on the tape .
( running the quick erase writes a indicator at the beginning of the media that makes the data contained in the media inaccessabile ie it erase the index ..)

You could also just drag the tape to the Scratch Media set if you wish!

Or with proper management of your media set OPP(s), you should not have to do any of the above.

there is two type of catalog

there is two type of catalog mention on Media & on Tape Library (TL) "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs" folder, when you erase or quick erase all the catalog information (last backup) it will deleted from Media. Its easer for TL to improve the performance while taking new backup..
its as simple as.. TC

RE: there is two type of catalog

??

Overwrite is the functional equivalent of a Quick Erase, so by managing your OPPs, you DO NOT have  to manually relabel or quick erase
