Hi,
does anyone know why SEP 11 requires IE 6 during the installation process?
is there any workaround for this?
reason: customer is using old application and still running IE 5.5 and unable to upgrade..
thank you!

IE6 is the minimum requirement of SEP.It cannot be changed. As far as I know it is using IE for downloading updates and for communicating to SEPM......
Hi Aravind,
yes i understand it is the minimum requirement which is why i'm asking if there is a workaround..
anyway, i'm thinking if it is possible to upgrade to IE 6, install SEP and then downgrade to IE 5.5..
Try with this multiple IE's running in single PC
http://tredosoft.com/files/multi-ie/multiple-ie-setup.exe
Dwonload the Run and choose only IE 6 it will install IE6 without removing old IE.
Just check it one PC and try ....
I have doubt whether SEP will work properly after removing IE6,still you can give a try....
yeah i doubt so.. i just checked with the SE as well.. IE 6 is required for SEP to be operational. thanks!
Hi Mahesh,
it seems weird.. but I will try your method.. thanks!
it works on my notebook.. i'm running IE 8 and IE 6 together. however, IE 6 has shows some runtime errors and prompts to debug which maybe due to patches or hotfix..
i will pass this to the engineer to test at customer environment.. :)
hoping for good news..
thanks!
sigh.. this only works on XP.. but the problem that is encountered is on 2000...
anyway, thanks Mahesh!
I have windows 2000 also. I try many way but it don't work so I need to upgrade to IE6.
In 2000 it has to be SP4 and IE6 both are required.
IE is a very in term of security as it is one of the main sources of threats coming in..
As far as I remember even SAV 10.x will not install on IE5.5 you will have to use SAV 9.x on them.
Hello!
Try to replace SEP with the scan engine:
http://www.symantec.com/business/scan-engine
Or you may can try Anti Virus corporate edition if required to log in to Management consol.

Thanks for your input.
I found this on the tredosoft webpage and asking the engineer to try to install it again on win 2000..
As A workaround * click start -> Run -> regedit * Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Internet Explorer -> Version Vector * Delete the IE key with the value "6.000"
