This issue has been solved. See solution.

Windows Web Server 2008 or R2 --- can this product be set-up to run as an embedded service?

I noticed that only when I RDP into myserver does the Norton's icon appear... and I do not see where it is setup to (or how to) start as an automatic service so I don't have to leave my desktop active on my server to have the firewall and antivirus running

in RDP sessions you wont see the icon on the task bar
start =all prgrams - do you see symantec endpoint or symantec antivirus?
in genral its not necessary to have an active explore.exe session for antivirus components to function..

When I RDP I do see the icon on the taskbar... my question is this.... I am changing dedicated hosting providers and I need to provide my own firewall and antivirus and I do not want to use Windows default also, this will be the first time I need to host my own SMTP and don't want to leave the server unprotected...

So, if I set the new server up as an end-point client, I can then manage it from my office server leaving the both the firewall and anti-virus always active on the remote dedicated server, is that correct?

Thanks

Yes this remove endpoint client can be managed by your office server ( SEPM)
