I have 4 development servers and I want to put thier image on 4 production servers. Will Ghost Solution Suite work with RAID5 Drives running on Server 2003 to make an image that i can put on new hardware?

It's my understanding that as long as you can rebuild the RAID5 array (with new or reformatted drives), then there's no reason why GSS would NOT work.

If you find out any additional information, however, I'd like to know your findings. I'm looking at rebuilding two different arrays and re-imaging a Server 2003 machine.

what version of ghost would be needed to do this?

I have been using ghost for years, current version I am using is 8, but the corporate office uses BART PE as a front end.  They are now using WIM with Ladybug to do desktops, but it wont do server 2003.  Since we use Maximo, and it is so finicky, it would be easier to image the servers as they are today while we know they are working correctly and then simply use that image to rebuild if needed (database would be restored from backup so no data would be lost), but I am having problems finding a software to do this with RAID, and I was told ghost would not work.  Can you give me a version to use that will?

mimcjo, Ghost Solution Suite

mimcjo,

Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 would be able to accomplish this provided you had the correct storage drivers loaded into the PreOS. Once you were in Ghost you could use the OS Volumes option to create one image out of the entire array. One precaution, do not use OS Volumes if you are using a bootable USB drive. That option essentially creates an image out of any storage devices that Ghost detects.

works great

i use ghost on servers running RAID all the time.  the trick for me is to use a dos based boot disk so you dont have to deal with the storage drivers.  as long as the hardware RAID is configured prior to receiving an image dos based ghost doesnt know the difference.  i have run this method on server 2000,2003,2008 and 2008 r2 64bit using RAID 0,1 and 5.
