I use SEP 11 and 12 several years, one of my routine work is troubleshooting the communtcation error between SEP and SEPM. Somtimes, after I deploy new client, new version, new site of SEPM, the "green icon" of SEP on taskbar gone, I need to use sylink or restore the cert. on SEPM. I think many people reach this problem too.

The log in SEP to toubleshoot this problem is not easy, It just said "http 500 error", etc.. something. Will symantec provide a tools for troubleshoot this case?

There is a self-help report (Scan for common issues) that details SEP Client to Manager communications. It performs the following tests:

    1.  Is the client a managed client?

    2.  Can we find a list of Managers for that client?

    3.  Can we resolve in DNS the managers listed as host names?

    4.  Can we communication with each manager?

The last two tests present a table summarizing the results for each manager.

This report should indicate a warning status if one or more managers cannot be communicated with and an error status if no managers can be communicated with.
