Consumer Preview is still Windows 8 ,with the current version of SEP, SEP client on Windows consumer preview is not supported.
12.1 Ru2 is the next version of SEP, which is going to be released in coming months, This should be supporting the said OS.

Note : Please note that there are currently known issues with SEP's optional Application and Device Control (ADC) component on this new Windows 8 platform. It is recommended to install SEP 12.1 without ADC when performing trials with Windows 8. These conflicts are expected to be resolved prior to the release of a version of SEP 12.1 that is supported on Windows 8.

Hello,
I have Installed SEP 12.1 RU2 on Windows 8 consumer preview and it works great.
However, Windows 8 may be supported in SEP 12.1 RU2.
No Official Release Date has been announced as of now.

In order to be considered for this program you must be registered with Symbeta. If you are already registered, log in with your username and password. If you have not yet registered, you will need to create a Symbeta account and provide the necessary information.

Ran installer SEP12.1 RU1 on Windows 8 RTM (MS TechNet) and it stopped at the beginning of the install:

Tried both Admin install and Compatibility test, both fail. --- It will not install ---
Next, installed SEP 12.1.1959.1959 (aka RU2 (aka 12.1.2)). After first reboot, had two errors, both fixed by the "Fix" button. First day a lot of popups were appearing from the system tray, but the following day did not see many at all.
