Windows 2008 64 bits and SEP 11.0.4000

Does anyone know whether SEP 11.0.4000 supports Windows 2008 64 bits?

In addition, I'm planning to install the antivirus component only. Do you think I will run into the DFS/File Share/RDP problems?

It is supposed to support Windows 2008 64 bit, but I still am having the File Share issue, even with MR4 MP2.  Let me know if it works for you.

Hi. Our Win 2008 servers are not going to be used for file sharing. However, RDP is my concern now.
I guess I have to upgrade it to MR4 MP2?

    CPACS,

Now, how do you deal with the file share issue?

    Doctortt,

For now, I have removed SEP and installed a trial version of NOD32.  The server is essentially unusable with SEP installed.  If I can't find a fix for SEP soon, I will change everything over to NOD32 or Macafee.  My SEP renewal is coming due in a few months anyway.

    Hi CPACS,

Sorry to hear that. What did Symantec say about your issue?
In addition, did MR4 SP2 fix the remote desktop issue?

Remote desktop worked fine, I had no issues.

As for Symantec, I gave up on hold on the phone, I only have so much time.  I submitted a post here yesterday hoping to get a response from a Symantec employee, but no such luck yet.  I can't be the only person with this problem, there were plenty of people with the same issue prior to MP2.

Its hard to wait on hold for Symantec support because I'm sure I will need it installed for them to try to help & as soon as it is installed, all hell breaks loose and no one can connect to any shares.  I am not fortunate enough to have a test environment.

Has anyone else out there tried MP2 on 64bit Server 2008?  Any luck?

    Sandip,

Thanks for the response, but after upgrading to MR4 MP2, my experience is that the issue has NOT been fixed and MP2 made no improvement to this issue.

Have you seen other comments that the fix actually worked?

Well again this problem should have been fixed in MR4 MP2. Also it is worth it to note that support has a hotfix for versions prior to MR4 MP2. The only way to obtain it however is through support so you might have to sit through the piano music for a while to get it. However since your upgrade didn't work I cant say for sure that the hotfix will either. Worth a shot in my book, so you should call in to support and request the hotfix.

    Cheers

Doing better than I........... I can't even get it to install at all.
    Server 2008, 64bit.
I hate it because it looks SO much like Vista, and even behaves badly in the same ways.
Too bad we must move to 2008, but for now, can't even get SEP to install to it.

I think I will try an install of 2008 with SEP as well, on a virtual machine. I will keep you guys posted. It might take me a couple of days though. Thanks for the input Shadows.

    Best of luck!

Our Windoze 2008 server is a VMWare server........... dunno if that's helping make things difficult or not, but SEP won't even install.Launch setup, I'm hounded by the OS "did you REALLY want to do this?", I tell it yes, I'm not an idiot, I REALLY double-clicked on SETUP.EXE on purpose, and it appears to start, dies. No folders created, nothing.
Ugh - my first thoughts of 2008 are OMG, another VISTA!

INSTALLED! Turned off that security warning garbage, rebooted, right-clicked on and ran setup.exe as administrator even though *I AM ADMINISTRATOR*.

We'll see how it behaves now.
It was a clean install of MR4_MP2, no prior versions, new, clean and fresh.
