Is there any timeframe for Windows 7 support?
I try it install Version 6.1.4016 to W7, but it failed.

I doubt you will get an answer to this

Like all major software suppliers, no doubt Symantec is working in house with the beta edition. However, any code releases are going to emerge from testing against the RTM version of windows 7, and no-one knows when that will happen for sure - not even Microsoft.
When you say that the install "failed" - that's pretty useless information on its own - how did it fail?
Out of interest, did you reduce the UAC slider to "minimum" and then reboot the machine before trying to install your code?

I had some problems installing a legacy printer driver from a copy of the XP install files due to access denied errors, and it wasn't until I reduced the UAC to minimum AND rebooted windows 7, that I was able to install the driver without any errors.

Update

It was just first test.
But i get it working, like you say, turn off UAC (minimum) and run Software_Virtualization_Agent.exe in Vista Compability mode.
I import applications from my Vista, and "Voila" they all worked :)

6.1.4016 won't install but

6.1.4016 won't install but newer versions will, but there are still issues with it (some bluescreens and the like) because Windows 7 is a beta.

I don't have any info about a Windows 7 time frame and since there's no release date yet I'd be surprised if anyone has a time frame for support.

Windows 7

I read somewhere that they are planning to release Windows 7 this summer-fall.  June or July I think.  They are going to release Vista SP2 first then, soon after, release Windows 7.

The Release candidate is

The Release candidate is coming out next month (as another public beta) so I doubt Win 7 could be released by June or July. This is pure speculation, so take it worth a grain of salt, but I would guess September would be the earliest for it's release.

SWV 6.1 and Windows 7 Beta

I'm going to amend my previous comment about SWV on Windows 7 Beta and say that SWV 6.1 should not be installed on it.

Windows 7 in 2010

I don't believe Windows 7 is scheduled for RTM before 2010

RC is May 5th

RC is May 5th so a lot of people are hoping for a 2009 release, but until Microsoft announces anything 2010 was the last date they mentioned months ago.

Windows RTM will be available on August 7th...

...but only to those with MSDN or Technet subscriptions. So look for severe loading of the internet for that day and several after.
The October 22nd date is for the retail versions.

Isn't it a shame?

In fact we are not waiting for Windows 7 to release!
The original question of Windows 7 support of SWV is much more interesting, I think!
And then again. I'd rather wait for a new SWV version with 64Bit support than having again a 32-Bit only support for Windows 7

64bit is a must

We are not even considering 32bit support for Windows 7.  We plan on moving everything to 64bit as our standard with Windows 7.  Since we buy our PCs with 4GB of RAM we are basically wasting 1 GB of it since 32 bit machines can really only address 3 GB of RAM.  We really need 64 bit SWV support along with full Windows 7 support.  That would let us move to a new OS and all applications could be virtualized at the same time.

64bit now

I agreed, most of our customers are planning to upgrade from XP to 64-bit Windows 7.
Windows 7 RTM is out now and we are starting W7 upgrade projects. During these projects customer choose app.virt. platform.

64 bit for 7 before XP

I would think more customers are going to need 64 bit support on Windows 7 then on XP.  We will never have a 64 bit XP client at our company but all Windows 7 machines will be 64 bit.  If Symantec is working on 64 bit support please make it coincide with the Windows 7 support.

64 bit for 7 before XP

I'll second that. Or, is that a thrid or fourth, now.

We're planning on migrating from XP 32 to Win 7 64 as soon as practicle and possible. Meaning probably first half of 2010 for my 500 users.
