    Hi

We have built an HP 8200 Elite SFF with Windows 7 64bit OS. This is the first machine we have built for the desktop with this OS and I am trying to take an image for future roll  out.

I am using a WINPE CD to bott the machine up and then run in ghostcast. However, with EFI enbaled it will not boot off the CD. If I disable it then it boots fine but then I am worried if I take the image it will be correct.

what are the steps do take an image correctly? I am using the Ghost suite version 11.5.1.2266

Any advice would be appreciated as I need to roll out a few desktops over the coming weeks.

    Thanks

    Lee

There is an EFI folder in the WinPE boot image - perhaps you need to ensure that your EFI file(s) are included in WinPE for it to boot successfully?

So when I create a boot image using ghost wizard where do I find the EFI files? if I copy them off the Windows 7 DVd and try to import them it fails.

The EFI files are in one of 2 places.  Either in the partition for Win7 or in the BOOT folder in C:\boot.  either way you need to back them up.

My recommendation is to leave the extra microsoft partition there.  I have another post on this board about my hassles with the HP 8200 machines.

Even if you get the WINPE boot to work imaging does not work ,as GSS does not support EFI.With EFI the disk is a GPT disk and Ghost would not recognize the same.Image creation would work and so does restoration ,but machine would not boot to OS.Ghost only supports MBR disks. To convert the disk to MBR,disable EFI from BIOS and reinstall OS.

    Thanks Maneesh,

After the image is taken can we turn EFI back on? will this effect anything?

Also, is there any idea when EFI will be supported by GSS?

    Thanks

Ghost does support GPT disks - it is uEFI that is not currently supported.

The following article explains GSS compatibility with GPT ,

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH111106

Just turning off EFI under BIOS will not make any difference to the disk .After turning off EFI ,OS has to reinstalled ,which will convert the disk to MBR.Proceed with image creation and restoration.
