Just downloaded SWV_6_1_SP1_eval.zip from symantec's website. is this the correct one ? and is the only way to download it to log in on symantecs website as request trialware ?

That's the one. And yes,

That's the one. And yes, trialware is the best location unless you've already purchased SWV licenses.

There are a couple

There are a couple of options.

We have three tools you can use (NS,DS or our Streaming Server) that can manage layers, I can't recommend one of the other because they're all better at different scenarios\setups so its hard for me to compare.

Some people just use WMI and here on Connect a few users have posted remote management consoles based off of WMI that are functional but pretty basic--but maybe that's all you need.

Licenses

A personal license is for personal use as the name implies.
However, if you plan to use SWV in a commercial or corporate environment where there will be multiple users, then you need to buy a license for each seat. As far as I am aware there are no differences in functionality, unless that has changed recently.

Nope no change in

Nope no change in functionality between the two, we're pretty committed to having a free version so enthusiasts can use the product and be advocates on-line and at work for our product.
