We used PC Transplant with great success from XP to 7.  I made custom template file to capture to just get what we needed (printer migration didn't work for us), we captured anything saved to desktop or my documents as well as Office settings.  The way I've always used PC Transplant is to put PCTWiz on a share with the custom template, and in that folder also create a folder for Captured Personalities.

Tech goes to XP machine and runs pctwiz, selects our template from sharepoint, check the boxes for users they want to capture, flick finish and save the captured .exe file to the sharepoint naming it by username. Then to restore on newly imaged machine, go to share point stored capture folder and double click on the username.exe. They are prompted then to restore the profiles and create accounts on the win7 machine (make sure source/destination match in the wizard).

Will likely move over to USMT when we go our next large swap of machines since PCTWiz seems broken in win7.

Don't forget to mark posts as helpful if they are, and mark answers as solutions.

Yes you can use PC Transplant to migrate user from XP to Win7. Please go through Deployment Solution User guide to get more information on PC Transplant.

Is there a way to set it up so that a tech doesnt have to run it? I've tried doing this but with multiple sites and the fact that PCT doesnt seem to have been designed with the enterprise admin / domain user in mind, it has been somewhat difficult. Any thoughts?

Altiris documentation is VERY poor indeed. i have never used PCT but you can include it in a job for migrating.

Capture personality.
Reboot to Automation
Deploy image
Reboot to PRoduction
Deploy personality.

All the tech has to do is drop the machine into this job. How good it is I have no idea!

I've only tested on a few systems but I almost had to write each capture for each machine, not to mention the user needs to login prior to deploying the least in the way that our user accounts are configured in our domain.
