Windows 7 Plans
What are your Windows 7 Plans?
When are you planning on deploying?
Do you plan on upgrading machines or just installing it on new machines?
Will your base OS install be 32 or 64 bit?
Will you be deploying Windows 7 machines in a NS6 or Ns7 environment?
I'll start -
We plan on going to Win7 on all new machines by Jan 2010. We are also planning on have our install be 64 bit due to memory issues in future, since we've pretty much hit the 32bit cap of 3/4GB. We hope to be running NS7 by then, but it's not a definite thing.
currently testing it
I have been running Windows 7 on my Mini 9 from Dell since release. I know a lot of custoemrs already testing it. some already plan on migrating to 7 in the summer of 2010.

Too early to say. Most
Too early to say. Most likely, since we are a hospital, we will still be limited by our vendors to Windows XP for a long time.

We will be moving to W7, but
We will be moving to W7, but hard to say when for certain. There will be an enormous amount of testing and updating of applications (including lots of web apps) before we can roll out in full force. We will also need W7 support in Altiris; it is unclear at this point whether that will be included in NS6 or if we will be forced to upgrade to NS7. With Win7 shipping in just a few months, and the (hopefully) strong similarities between Win7 and Vista from an OS functionality level, I certainly hope that Win7 will be supported under NS6, hopefully only requiring a Hotfix rollup release...

We would switch our entire fleet to MAC if there was only a Patch Mgmt Solution for MAC, oh well. :)
Until then I guess we will stick with XP 32-bit. If anything helps us move it may be the XP virtual machine that will be included with certain versions. It is still too early to determine the plans for us. It would be new hardware moving forward most likely.

Patch Management for Mac is coming in 7.0 SP1 due out in September...;-)

DS should be supporting it sooon
The next version of DS should be supporting Win7 and Vista SP2. Hopefully other solutions will not be far behind.
