Attaching the install log.  Unable to get this to install on Windows 7 Professional.  Have run as administrator.  Run LiveUpdate first, installs okay.  Run setup.exe, goes through the motions and then rolls back.  Not finding any resolution.  Sounds like something is blocking or a security issue.

Hi

Lot of installation on win7 has been resolved by installing livupdate first and then the setup.exe

please follow this step
install livupate first
run lusetup.exe
once the installation is done
then run the setup.exe
lets see if that works.

I see errors related to

I see errors related to LiveUpdate (lucheck.exe), try what Rafeeq has suggested and update us, if it doesnt help, try the following

=> uninstall LiveUpdate (preferably from the command prompt)

> Open Command Prompt and go to the location where you have Lsetup.exe
     > The default location is C:\Program files\Symantec\liveupdate
     > in the command window type "lsetup.exe -a -u" (without quotes)

=> Download and install LiveUpdate version 3.5 from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/
=> Install the SEP client.

I have installed LiveUpdate

I have installed LiveUpdate first.  At one time that did work and then it all stopped.  LiveUpdate installs without error.  Then I run setup.  It rolls back and removes LU as well.  Then I have to reboot.
I will try your link now.  Thanks.

You can try the above

You can try the above mentioned steps , but i am not in the favour of installing LU ver 3.5 . As it is for Home & Home Office products. If you use a Symantec Enterprise product, use LiveUpdate 3.3."

SEP is an enterprise product and for it you need LU 3.3 not 3.5 that is for home and home office products

No go

Only errors I find are in the App log and it has to do with LiveUpdate.

The description for Event ID 101 from source Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

So I am not having any luck here.

UAC is disabled.

I'm going to rebuild this

I'm going to rebuild this machine.  Nothing will allow the install.  Ran the chkdsk /f, cleaned up all directories.  Even tried to load up 11.0.4 MR4.  No go either.

There is nothing to clean up

There is nothing to clean up with that utility.  No Symantec or LiveUpdate.

Exactly which versions of

Exactly which versions of windows 7 are being supported? I have only had one success with installing it on windows 7 and that was ultimate edition.  Professional x64 and Enterprise x32 have both "failed" for me. The professonal 64bit version did install and shows a green dot but the server does not see it as being checked in.

All versions are supported

The release notes say "Windows 7", rather than listing individual versions.  As long as you're running RU 5, all flavors of Windows 7 available are supported.

Win 7 Rollback Workaround

I had the same problem..

I was able to fix the defect by installing an "unmanaged" client directly from the SETUP disk.

After it completed the install as an unmanaged client, I used the tool called Sylink replacer to change my client from Unmanaged to Managed..

tool available here :
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/sylinkreplacer-tool-connecting-sep-clients-sepm

The client is now managed and shows up in my MMC..  The tool was pretty simple to use ..

The client is a Win 7 64 bit .. Rolled back regardless of deployment or direct install from a package..

Hope that helps..

Try this it worked for me on a Windows 7 Client

Hi

You can try this Solution

Before Doing any changes in the Registry
Take the Backup of the Registry
Eventhough this document mentions vista os,it worked for me in Windows 7

Installation Issue Document:
http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/5c45f3798fdd78e3492575d7001f71c3?OpenDocument

Don't use Single Exe,better use bunch of Files ie MSI Package

First Install Liveupdate followed by Symantec Antivirus.msi,if you are going to use for Managed Environment, while creating the package, create bunch of Files Package.

When you click on Export on the Left Hand Side top Uncheck the Option Create a Single Exe for the package.Better use Unattended as the Installation Type, also you may face pending system changes in Windows 7

For pending system Changes Delete the pending File Rename Operation key from Registry

Package Creation Document:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007110513361348

Pending System Changes Document
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007121609023348

Hope this will work for you

there an easier fix

I had this issue in a larger scale were all windows 7 computers will generate live update error.
all i did is installed unmanaged clients to all windows 7 pcs then copid sylink.xml from a working managed client and paste to installation folder on windows 7 pcs.
the file is located at C:\\Porgram Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection in any working client machine... unless it was upgraded from symantec antivirus then it shoud be in antivirus folder .....

that fixed my issues with Endpint protection 11.0.5

The Solution (Hopefully)

Hi,

It is as simple as:

In the registry,

Find

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
value=%APPDATA%

and change it to

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

Install SEP client again.

You can find the full details in this article:
